1). The nearest airport to Southwest Harbor is the Bar Harbor / Hancock County Airport in Trenton, ME. It is serviced by only two airlines: CapeAir phone: 1-866-CAPE-AIR and Silver Air (phone: 801-401-9100), both of which fly to Bar Harbor from Boston.
From the airport you can take a taxi to Southwest Harbor. You can prearrange this with At Your Service Taxi (207-288-9222). It is about a half-hour ride.
2). There is also an international airport at Bangor which is about an hour and a half drive from Southwest Harbor. This is serviced by several major airlines. You can check out which airlines fly into Bangor by looking at their website From Bangor, you can arrange to have either of the above taxis take you from there to Southwest Harbor. This will cost approximately $65 for the 55-mile trip.
Water Taxi to Great Duck Island
We will arrange boat transportation to the island through Sail Acadia leaving from Dysart’s Great Harbor Marina in Southwest Harbor. The round trip includes a helper to assist with the landing, show you the house and help you carry your baggage. The trip to Great Duck Island takes about an hour to an hour and a half, depending on the wind, weather and tides.
Little Duck Island
On the way to Great Duck Island you can make a short side trip around Little Duck Island, which is an Audubon bird sanctuary, to see the large colony of Harbor and Great Grey seals living there. Eagles are frequently seen on the treetops.
